The home of Clothing By Desiree is our Retail Store at 43 Tory Street Petone where we are excited to offer a different experience from most stores.
Most stores have a take it or leave it approach meaning that if something doesn't quite fit but you really love the item then you end up buying it and taking it to a tailor (or it sits in the back of your wardrobe with the intention of going to the tailor)
Since we have our store in Wellington which is the same city as our workroom and all of our production we decided it was a great opportunity to things a bit differently.
We offer complimentary alterations to all full priced items purchased in-store. So if you come in and try on a dress and want a different hem or a different neckline we will do a fitting while you are in-store and your altered item will be ready for pick up a couple of days later, all at no extra charge.
Why do we do this?
Clothing By Desiree is passionate about creating sustainable fashion and being the opposite of fast fashion. One way of doing this is creating high quality clothing that will be worn for years and years to come. We do this by selecting high quality fabrics, producing quality garments locally and by offering complimentary alterations we are stopping those garments sitting in the back of wardrobes and meaning they will be worn and loved.

What if the changes you want can't be done by standard alterations? For example you want a longer hemline or a completely different fabric?
Don't worry, we still have you covered with our Made to Order Service.
We are a small store and focused on sustainability so instead of doing what other stores do by trying to have all the options on hand and sometime going to waste, we do the opposite.
Our Made to Order Service means if you want another fabric we can sit down and go through swatches and pick out another fabric to make a new item for you from. If you like the fabric but want a bigger size or a longer hemline etc then that comes in under that service as well.
There is no extra charge for Made to Orders and they are completed in two weeks.
So if this sounds like your kind of store, come in and see us at 43 Tory Street, Petone. We'd love to see you there.

We are a small designer store located in Petone and are looking for reliable staff to work in our Retail store. Friendly personality and willingness to serve customers is a must for this role. We have so many lovely customers including many repeat customers who you will enjoy getting to know.
Sewing skills are a must for this role as when not serving customers there are always projects to be working on.
Pattern making skills is a big bonus but not essential. The main pattern making that is to be done instore is pattern grading and that can be taught to you, it is fairly straight forward when you have the grading rules.
Customer service experience is preferable but as long as you are comfortable talking to people you don’t know yet, then you’ll be great. We don’t sell our customers hard on our clothing, we let them look around, try things on, provide advice when they ask and then they decide. Definitely not a pushy sales role!
The biggest things needed for this job are to be friendly, reliable and teachable.
Greeting and serving customers in the store
Maintaining the stores presence - tidying up, dressing the mannequins, adjusting layouts etc
Processing sales via Shopify POS
