Knowing who made the clothing you wear and who sells it is all part of the Fashion Revolution that is happening which will transform they way clothing is produced and where consumers buy from.
We are very happy to be part of the fashion revolution and introduce you to who makes the clothing, who sells it and where our fabrics come from (plus anything else you want to ask us)
So, I am very pleased to introduce Anél Heyman from Mooinooi Boutique in Palmerston North who is one of our lovely stockists.
I asked her a few questions so that we could all find out a bit more about her.
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. My husband and I moved to NZ in 2012.
Where does your store name (Mooinooi) come from?
I wanted the name to be unique and also say something about my heritage. Mooinooi was the perfect fit since it is an Afrikaans word (which is my native language) and means Beautiful Women, which is exactly what the store is all about, being beautiful!
What is your go to fashion item?
I love scarves but have this one particular floral multi-coloured scarf that is my absolute favorite. I can wear it with almost anything and if my outfit looks a bit bland, that scarf is the perfect solution to brighten things up. It also always goes with me when I travel.
What is the best fashion event you have attended?
I attended London Fashion week in 2010. It was AMAZING!
What is your favourite colour to wear?
Black and blues, but I do love to add a pop of colour to my black outfits.
What got you into the fashion industry?
Millinery! I started making hats around 6 years ago and that got me interested in the fashion industry as well since the whole outfit needs to work in harmony with the hat. I love fashion that is different but still classy and working with a specific outfit gives me a chance to show my skills as a milliner to create the perfect piece to finish off the whole look.
Best outfit memory?
It has to be my wedding dress. I planned it for so long and it was just perfect which added to our perfect day. I still have it after almost 14 years of married life and love taking it out every now and then.
Worst outfit memory?
My school play... I had to wear a terrible shiny apple green dress. It had these big puffy shoulders and a wide skirt with a massive bow at the back. Can't even remember what I was supposed to be!
Something most people don't know about you?
I have played piano since I was 6 years old
What kind of women does your store attract?
My boutique attracts women generally aged between 35 and 75 who are looking for quality one off items. It will be ladies who are after corporate wear with a difference, something for a wedding or special event, or ladies who are off on holiday and are after something that is comfy yet stylish. We have been offering a custom made hat service since January which also brings in a lot of ladies who are off to the races in NZ and abroad as well as mother of the bride/groom.
What do you wear when you travel?
I like to be comfortable when I travel. If I am comfy it makes me feel like I'm on holiday. No tight fitting clothes or high heels, unless I am going to a specific event. I prefer items that does not crease easily and that can be worn in more than one way. I also have a handy cross-body bag which I always travel with. Easy to use, has space for the things I need to have with me and keeps my hands free :-)
What do your customers LOVE to buy?
It differs from time to time but we find that if an item serves a double purpose, it has SOLD written all over it. Ladies love an item that can be worn in more than one way. We have a popular sparkly shawl at the moment which can be worn with the sparkles around your neck, or flip it upside down and wear the sparkles at the bottom for a more casual look. We have a lot of jewellery as well that can be worn in more than one way by flipping it over, removing or adding pieces and by popping out stones to change to a different colour.
